The American Rose Society conducts an annual competition to recognize outstanding publications of local societies and districts. The category for local societies is divided into two separate classes. Class A is for publications consisting of eight pages or less and Class B for publications commonly greater than eight pages. District bulletins are judged only against other district bulletins. In addition to the newsletter/bulletin competition, the Newsletter/Bulletin Awards Committee will recognize individual articles and special publications for Awards of Merit. Societies and Districts may submit separately printed brochures, pamphlets or booklets to committee members for consideration for an Award of Merit.
Publications should be sent to all ARS Bulletin/Awards Committee members including the Chairman and ARS Publication Department at the same time as they are mailed to members or subscribers. Please be sure to note on the outside address label if you are entering Class A or Class B. Your last newsletter must be received by January 15, 2008 to be eligible for scoring in the 2007 competition. Committee members independently evaluate them according to standards printed in the ARS Guidelines for Editors. Copies of the rules of competition are found in Guidelines for Editors of Rose Society Newsletter/Bulletins, $3 from ARS (1-318-938-5402, x101).
